GPX Elevation Profile

Turn a recorded track into a clean elevation chart with total ascent, descent and min/max altitude — free, no sign-up.

🔒 What happens to your file: GPX files are read right in your browser. Other formats (FIT, TCX, KML/KMZ, GeoJSON, NMEA) can't be read by a browser — those are sent to the Reisezoom server for conversion, processed there and deleted immediately. In detail: what goes where.

Want to turn this into a video?

The free desktop app animates your track as a map fly-through video, makes elevation animations, tour images and photo geotagging — all in one, for YouTube & Reels.

Step by step

  1. Load a track with elevation data

Drop your file above. If your track has no elevation at all (many phones), first run it through Add elevation — then come back.

  2. Read the profile

Total ascent and descent use a 3-metre threshold, so GPS noise doesn't inflate your climbing. Hover to see distance and altitude at any point.

  3. Use it for planning

Combine it with the splits table to see which kilometres carry the climbing — that tells you where to save your legs.

Drop a GPX file (or FIT, TCX, KML/KMZ, GeoJSON) and get an instant elevation profile of the whole track, plus total ascent, descent and the min/max altitude. Move your mouse along the chart to read distance and height at each point.

FAQ

What happens to my file?

GPX files are read right in your browser. Other formats (FIT, TCX, KML/KMZ, GeoJSON, NMEA) can't be read by a browser — those are sent to the Reisezoom server for conversion, processed there and deleted immediately. GPX is text and is read in the browser. Every other format has to be converted first, and only the server can do that.

How is ascent calculated?

Total ascent and descent are summed with a small 3-metre threshold to filter GPS noise.

Does my file leave my device?

GPX is processed in your browser; other formats are only converted, never stored.
